The Osijek terminal has 3 aboveground storage tanks (ASTs) for Eurodiesel, Eurodiesel B7 and Eurosuper 95. The following activities are performed at the location: receipt of fuel arriving in rail tank-wagons, and product dispatch via tank trucks. Prior to the implementation of this innovation, product dispatch via tank trucks was not performed simultaneously with the receipt of fuel from tank-wagons since the pipelines used to transfer the fuel out or into the storage tank are positioned at about 70 cm from the bottom of the AST. When the fuel enters the AST, this causes the sediment particles to rise, reducing the quality of the product. As shown by a fuel quality analysis performed in storage tanks at receipt, when unloading the fuel, quality deterioration only occurs in the bottom section of the tank. This issue was addressed with the aim of finding a solution that would allow the product to be dispatched from the storage tank using only the fuel from the highest level in the tank. Installing a floating suction or pipe inside the AST, which would then float in the tank at the actual level of the fuel stored, was proposed. After the installation, receipt of fuel arriving in tank-wagons and dispatch of products via tank trucks are being performed simultaneously at the location.
