In setting up a shipbuilding slipway the biggest cost is the use of a floating crane. The price of a floating crane of appropriate lifting capacity ranges from 600 € to 700 € per one hour of operation, plus the costs of the tugboat to tug the floating crane to the working location and to tug it back to its berth (500 €/h ).
The system of two caissons with buoyancy control and a system to connect to the slipway and shore crane makes it possible to completely leave out the floating crane in the calculation of the costs, with the consequent lower risk to the diving crew at work. Simultaneously, the time required to lower the slipway into the sea and to bring it on shore again remains unchanged.
