Devices such as remote controls, wireless computer mice, use batteries (most often AA) that will stop working prematurely because they will “discharge” and their users will replace them and throw them in the trash.

This device is an author’s work whose purpose is to inform the user about the need to water the plant. Its power source is the same almost “empty” battery that would otherwise be thrown away with more than enough energy left. The device measures the properties of the soil and, with the help of a lamp, informs about the need to water the plant. At first use, minimal attention and calibration is required from the user to ensure further operation.

The goal of this device is to mostly discharge the battery so that its disposal is safer and, as a consequence, the successful sustainability of houseplants.
