Most people depend on railway locomotives as their main type of transportation across cities or districts. It is necessary to deploy maintenance vehicles or personnel to examine the condition of railway tracks to ensure the safety of passengers. However, the railway tracks are often thousands of kilometers in length, making the maintenance work a difficult and costly task that requires a lot of manpower.

The Railroad Foreign Matter Monitor and Analysis System monitors railways, identifies foreign objects like failing rocks, animals, etc.), analyzes the obstacle, and notifies the train operator immediately to allow for extra reaction time to respond. The invention could increase the quality and safety of traveling by trains as it could assist in preventing derailments caused by failure of a track component, obstacles on a track, etc.
