Safety in chemical laboratories is of utmost importance, especially for users new to working with hazardous materials. Scientific research highlights that scientific laboratories often pose a higher risk of accidents compared to industrial environments, primarily due to limited knowledge of safety protocols and equipment. Common problems include misunderstanding hazard symbols, improper waste disposal, and inadequate use of personal protective equipment (PPE). To address these challenges, we have developed a unique digital application using augmented reality technology for mobile devices and smart glasses that transforms traditional safety training into an interactive and engaging experience by scanning text-based safety materials and laboratory objects using a combination of videos, 3D models, and pictogram recognition. In addition, the application introduces interactivity and allows users to repeat procedures as many times as they want in formal and informal settings. By integrating this technology, we provide instant access to laboratory safety guidelines, proper PPE use, and key information from safety data sheets (SDSs), which is unique in the market.
