This invention presents a smart adaptive neuro-rehabilitation device which integrates real-time physiological monitoring using the BioPAC system with transauricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS). The device is designed to support functional recovery in patients with neurological impairments, particularly after stroke. Real-time electrocardiographic (ECG) signals are acquired and processed to determine heart rate variability (HRV) parameters reflecting autonomic nervous system activity. Based on these physiological parameters, the device adaptively adjusts the timing and intensity of taVNS within predefined safety limits, aiming to enhance parasympathetic activation and promote neuroplasticity.
A key feature of the device is the synchronization of vagal stimulation with controlled respiratory patterns guided by biofeedback, thereby optimizing vagal modulation. Surface electromyography (EMG) may also be integrated to monitor neuromuscular activation and functional progress as a complementary assessment component. By combining real-time multimodal monitoring, biofeedback, and adaptive neuromodulation, the device provides a clinically feasible and scalable approach to personalized neurorehabilitation.
