To reduce land and ocean pollution caused by plastic seedling trays, we created a sustainable, multi-layer seedling pod that supports SDGs 12, 14, and 15.
The pod is made from recycled paper mixed with pineapple leaf fiber, banana stem fiber, and oyster shell powder. This mix allows good air flow, holds water well, and keeps the pH balanced, helping roots grow strong and healthy.
The pod has a special multi-layer design: an aloe-infused center to protect the seed, agar sheets to keep it moist, and an outer shell that breaks down naturally in soil,so it can be planted directly without creating waste.
It works well in many planting systems, such as home gardens, vertical farms, aquaponics, and city green spaces. It’s great for growing both flowers and vegetables.
Two invention patents are under review: one for eco-friendly rattan made from plant fibers, and another for the seedling pod’s layered structure.
