The “smart road” is an innovation designed to enhance safety in urban traffic. It relies on enabling communication between the road itself and the vehicle. When a vehicle enters a built-up area—specifically, a low-speed zone—infrared diodes transmit a signal that is captured and processed by a sensor within the vehicle; based on this, the system limits the engine’s rotational speed. This safety system can prevent collisions and make driving less stressful, as the driver does not need to worry about exceeding the speed limit. In this innovation, this functionality is achieved using an Arduino UNO board that, upon receiving a signal via an infrared sensor, can halt the motors for 15 seconds. The signal transmitter consists of a second Arduino UNO and infrared diodes, configured to simulate a real-world traffic scenario. Furthermore, the use of secure protocols and signal routers makes it possible to ensure 100% signal reception.
